Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Why are Puredistance Perfumes more expensive than most other fragrances?
  1. The Perfume oil we use for the Puredistance Perfumes is made of high quality, expensive ingredients. The cost price of the Perfume oil in our flacons is often 10 to 20 times higher than the cost price of most mass fragrances.
  2. In every flacon we use a lot of precious Perfume oil, because we only offer pure Perfume extrait. Our Perfumes contain 25-38% of Perfume oil in each flacon, compared to 5-8% Perfume oil for most mass fragrances.
  3. We only use the best and most beautiful materials for our flacons and gift boxes.
  4. Puredistance Master Perfumes are truly exclusive and sold in less than 100 perfumeries worldwide. We only produce a very small amount of Perfumes each year. In numbers of Perfumes sold we are closer to an artist selling unique art than to the millions being produced by the ‘big guys’. This exclusivity adds to the cost price of each Perfume.

Pure Perfume is – because its high oil concentration – richer, closer to the body, longer lasting and with a deeper character. With pure Perfume, such as Puredistance, you only have to spray once or twice to get a long lasting result. Thus Puredistance Perfume flacons can be used for a long time before they are empty. Also, you are very well able to smell and follow the continuously changing Perfume on your skin.

Puredistance Perfumes, just like any Perfume, should be kept in a dark, cool place away from direct sunlight and humidity as these will quickly degrade the quality of the Perfume. Also, you should avoid shaking the Perfume bottle. To protect your Puredistance Master Perfume from light all our flacons are coloured glass, and we provide our customers with a luxurious leather holder for the 100 ml flacons.

The MAGNIFICENT XII COLLECTION will be our main perfume collection.  This collection will always include a selection of 12 perfumes. No more, no less. Every one or two years one perfume from this collection will be replaced by a new creation.

The perfumes we replace will be part of the ‘PRIVATE COLLECTION’   – available for those who know – but these perfumes will not be displayed or  promoted anymore.

This is our elegant and simple solution for the worldwide problem of overproduction and choice overload. A solution completely in line with our motto: ‘Less is More’.

Puredistance Perfumes are exclusively sold through the authorised retailers listed on our storelocator. Only if you buy through the stores on this list, the authenticity and quality of our perfumes is guaranteed.

This means that if you buy Puredistance perfumes through stores that are not listed on our storelocator list, you risk buying illegally obtained or used perfume flacons. And perfumes that are purchased this way, are not covered by our Quality Guarantee.

When creating a new fragrance, founder Jan Ewoud Vos first works out an original concept and approaches a prominent Perfumer to see if there is a match. In case there is, the concept is used by the Perfumer as inspiration. This concept is illustrated with pictures, film and music. Then Mr. Vos and his team – step by step – start to evaluate various fragrance versions and In the end Mr. Vos decides which Perfume variation is the perfect match for his concept. This intuitive decision is based on his synesthetic mind (In a synthetic mind a scent most commonly triggers a corresponding color, but it can also lead to tastes, sounds, or images.)

The Perfumer is given total freedom in choosing the ingredients and no limits are given for the costs of the Perfume oil. On top of that no deadline is given, since we realise that creating a truly original and beautiful Perfume can take a long time, exactly as the creation of any artistic masterpiece cannot be done in a hurry or on command.

At Puredistance we do not differentiate between masculine and feminine scents. While some of our Perfumes can be considered more feminine than others, we believe that the choice of a scent is entirely personal.

It all started with a dream founder Jan Ewoud Vos once had in 2002 – half sleeping, half awake – he pictured an elegant lady, minimally dressed in a simple, elegant white dress, stepping into a room where people have a party. People drinking, some people showing off, people overdressing, people talking too loud… The lady is barefooted. The lady does not wear any logo’s or jewelry. Apart from the white dress she wears nothing. And she is stunningly beautiful. In a pure way. In a natural way. Think of Grace Kelly… her pure beauty creates a distance: ‘PUREDISTANCE’.

This was the birth of the Puredistance concept, and the dream enclosed all the main ingredients that still hold true today : beauty, pure elegance, simplicity and honesty. It also included the message, ‘Less is More’.

Timeless beauty you find in the music of Mozart, the architecture of the Romans, or in the shape of a vintage Aston Martin. The beauty of these works of art moves each generation again. This has always been our goal, to create Perfumes and design of such elegance that these creations will never go out of style or fashion – because of the eternally beautiful elements within. Timeless elegance for us is also a simple way of elegance that has to do with a fluid and effortless way of moving, behaving and dressing. Always in a respectful way to others and in harmony with nature.

‘Puredistance for me is a voyage to the essence. And in the essence lies beauty. The kind of beauty that is timeless. Welcome to the world of Puredistance.’

The most early ethos of Puredistance, written out by Jan Ewoud Vos in 2005, still holds true. This ethos inspired Journalist Suzy Nightingale to write the following:

‘In a world full to bursting with extravagantly bottled fragrances endorsed by celebrities primped and preened to within an inch of their lives, sometimes we forget the importance of that age old truism: Less is More. It takes a certain bravery to step off the scented carousel, to stand up for individualism and—most importantly—to strip back the needless layers of lacquer to honor the integrity of the Perfume itself. It sounds like common sense, but it can often seem with the churned-out masses that the fragrance is the very last thing on a long and tacky list.’

Puredistance is one of the last niche Perfume Houses that is fully independent and 100% privately owned. The past years we have seen many leading niche Perfume companies being taken over by large luxury powerhouses or investment funds.

At Puredistance we still have the freedom to make aesthetic and moral choices without external (financial) pressure from third parties.
